But I say, love your enemies Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:44-48

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things. Philippians 4:8

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Sunday Chat: Election Results / Lessons From Daniel


Young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service. Daniel 1: 4-5


When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. He asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?” Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel. At this, Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him. Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven Daniel 2:14-19


Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. Daniel 3:15-20


‘This is what the dream means, Your Majesty, and what the Most High has declared will happen to my lord the king. You will be driven from human society, and you will live in the fields with the wild animals. You will eat grass like a cow, and you will be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses. But the stump and roots of the tree were left in the ground. This means that you will receive your kingdom back again when you have learned that heaven rules. Daniel 4:25-26


“‘King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.’ Daniel 4:25-27


So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.” Give orders that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human except to you, Your Majesty will be thrown into the den of lions. Daniel 6:5 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Daniel 6:10 Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament. Daniel 6:14


Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn’t sleep at all that night. Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. When he got there, he called out in anguish, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him, for he had trusted in his God. Then the king gave orders to arrest the men who had maliciously accused Daniel. He had them thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. The lions leaped on them and tore them apart before they even hit the floor of the den. Daniel 6:18-24


So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian. Daniel 6:28


Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one. “Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.” But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Psalm 2:1-4


I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. 1 Timothy 2:1-6

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, 
but see to it that you are not alarmed. 
Such things must happen, 
but the end is still to come. 
Nation will rise against nation, 
and kingdom against kingdom. 
There will be famines and earthquakes
in various places.
All these are the beginning of birth pains. 
Matthew 24:6-8 

But understand this, 
that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, 
proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, 
ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, 
slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 
treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, 
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 
having the appearance of godliness, 
but denying its power. Avoid such people.

 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, 
and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus

will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, 
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel 
and with the trumpet call of God, 
and the dead in Christ will rise first. 
After that, we who are still alive and are left 
will be caught up together with them in the clouds 
to meet the Lord in the air. 
And so we will be with the Lord forever. 
Therefore encourage one another with these words.

But for twenty-one days the spirit prince 
of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. 
Then Michael, one of the archangels,

 But if you are bitterly jealous 
and there is selfish ambition 
in your heart, 
don’t cover up the truth with

For jealousy and selfishness

unspiritual, and demonic.

Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, 
to the highest point of the Temple, 
and said, “If you are the Son of God,

For the Scriptures say,
‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
    so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.”

Jesus responded, 
“The Scriptures also say, 
‘You must not test the Lord your God.”

When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, 
he left him until the next opportunity came.

Psalm 91 is AMAZING!
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High 
    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 
This I declare about the Lord: 
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; 
    he is my God, and I trust him. 
For he will rescue you from every trap 
    and protect you from deadly disease. 
He will cover you with his feathers. 
    He will shelter you with his wings. 
    His faithful promises are your armor and protection. 
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, 
    nor the arrow that flies in the day. 
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, 
    nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 
Though a thousand fall at your side, 
    though ten thousand are dying around you, 
    these evils will not touch you. 
Just open your eyes, 
    and see how the wicked are punished. 
If you make the Lord your refuge, 
    if you make the Most High your shelter, 
no evil will conquer you; 
    no plague will come near your home. 
For he will order his angels 
    to protect you wherever you go. 
They will hold you up with their hands 
    so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. 
You will trample upon lions and cobras; 
    you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 
The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. 
    I will protect those who trust in my name. 
When they call on me, I will answer; 
    I will be with them in trouble. 
    I will rescue and honor them. 
I will reward them with a long life 
    and give them my salvation.” 

Submit yourselves therefore to God. 
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

 For we are not fighting against 
flesh-and-blood enemies, 
but against evil rulers and authorities 
of the unseen world, 
against mighty powers in this dark world, 
and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor 
so you will be able to resist the enemy 
in the time of evil. 
Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 

Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth 
and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from 
the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

In addition to all of these, hold up the 
shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

Put on salvation as your helmet, 
and take the sword of the Spirit, 
which is the word of God. 

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. 
Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers 
for all believers everywhere.

Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, 
“Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”

“You don’t have enough faith,” 
Jesus told them. 
“I tell you the truth, if you had faith 
even as small as a mustard seed, 
you could say to this mountain, 
‘Move from here to there,’ 
and it would move. 
Nothing would be impossible.

 During the night Pharaoh 
summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 
“Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites!
 Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. 
Take your flocks and herds, 
as you have said, and go. 
And also bless me.”
Exodus 12:31-32

By day the Lord went ahead of them 
in a pillar of cloud to guide them on 
their way and by night in a pillar 
of fire to give them light, 
so that they could travel by 
day or night. 
Neither the pillar of cloud by day 
nor the pillar of fire by night left its 
place in front of the people.

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
 and all that night the Lord drove the sea back 
with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land.

“Stretch out your hand over the sea so that 
the waters may flow back over the Egyptians 
and their chariots and horsemen.” 

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, 
and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. 
The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, 
and the Lord swept them into the sea. 
The water flowed back and covered the 
chariots and horsemen the entire army 
of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites 
into the sea. Not one of them survived. 
Exodus 14:21-26

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea
 and they went into the Desert of Shur.
For three days they traveled in the desert
without finding water. 

When they came to Marah, 
they could not drink its water 
because it was bitter. 

So the people grumbled against Moses, 
saying, “What are we to drink?” 

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, 
and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. 
He threw it into the water, 
and the water became fit to drink.

Psalm 34:4-7 
 
The Lord is my light and my salvation 
    so why should I be afraid? 
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, 
    so why should I tremble?
