Broccoli Salad

This is my mom’s recipe, and I’ve been making it for years. ❤️ There’s just something magical about the combination of textures—the crisp broccoli, crunchy sunflower seeds, sweet raisins and apple—all brought together with this creamy, tangy dressing.

It’s always a huge hit at every gathering we bring it to! 🥦

Mark doesn’t like bacon, so I usually leave it out, and it’s still absolutely delicious. You can also add green grapes if you like a little extra sweetness. 🍇

One of the best things about this broccoli salad is how easy it is to make. I recommend making it the day before and refrigerating it overnight. That gives all those wonderful flavors time to blend together. 😋

🥦 Ingredients

  • 4 cups broccoli, chopped into small pieces

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup celery, chopped

  • 1/4 cup raisins

  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 lb. bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional) 🥓

  • Green grapes (optional) 🍇

  • 1 Granny Smith apple, chopped 🍏

🥣 Dressing

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

  • Salt and pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Microwave the broccoli for 2–3 minutes, just until slightly tender. Immediately rinse it under cold water, then drain well.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, red onion, celery, raisins, sunflower seeds, bacon (if using), grapes (if using), and chopped apple.

  3. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper until smooth.

  4. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss until everything is well coated.

  5. Cover and refrigerate for several hours, preferably overnight, to allow all those delicious flavors to blend. ✨

  6. Give it a good stir before serving and enjoy! ❤️
