Sunday Chat: The Devil

But for twenty-one days the spirit prince
of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way.
Then Michael, one of the archangels,
came to help me, and I left him there
with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.
Daniel 10:13

But if you are bitterly jealous
and there is selfish ambition
in your heart,
don’t cover up the truth with
boasting and lying.
For jealousy and selfishness
are not God’s kind of wisdom.
Such things are earthly,
unspiritual, and demonic.
James 3:14-15

He has always hated the truth,
because there is no truth in him.
When he lies, it is consistent
with his character;
for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:44

Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand
against the schemes of the devil.
Ephesians 6:11

Be sober-minded; be watchful.
Your adversary the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress;
the godly run to him and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10

When the seventy-two disciples returned,
they joyfully reported to him,
“Lord, even the demons obey us
when we use your name!”
Luke 10:17

Then the devil said to him,
“If you are the Son of God,
tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”

But Jesus told him,
“No! The Scriptures say,
‘People do not live by bread alone.’[b]”

Then the devil took him up
and revealed to him all the kingdoms
of the world in a moment of time.
"I will give you the glory of these
kingdoms and authority over them,”
the devil said, “because they are mine
to give to anyone I please.
I will give it all to you if you will worship me.”

Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say,
‘You must worship the Lord your God
    and serve only him.”

Then the devil took him to Jerusalem,
to the highest point of the Temple,
and said, “If you are the Son of God,
jump off!
For the Scriptures say,
‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.”

Jesus responded,
“The Scriptures also say,
‘You must not test the Lord your God.”

When the devil had finished tempting Jesus,
he left him until the next opportunity came.

Psalm 91 is AMAZING!
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.
If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
    and give them my salvation.”

Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7

For we are not fighting against
flesh-and-blood enemies,
but against evil rulers and authorities
of the unseen world,
against mighty powers in this dark world,
and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor
so you will be able to resist the enemy
in the time of evil.
Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth
and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from
the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

In addition to all of these, hold up the
shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

Put on salvation as your helmet,
and take the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.
Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers
for all believers everywhere.

Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately,
“Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”

“You don’t have enough faith,”
Jesus told them.
“I tell you the truth, if you had faith
even as small as a mustard seed,
you could say to this mountain,
‘Move from here to there,’
and it would move.
Nothing would be impossible.
Matthew 17:19-20

 in
God I trust and am not afraid.
What can man do to me?”
Psalm 56:10-11

No one serving as a soldier
gets entangled in civilian affairs,
but rather tries to please
his commanding officer.
2 Timothy 2:4

Do not be misled:
“Bad company corrupts good character.
1 Corinthians 15:33
