Compare To....

Walmart continues to expand their 'Equate' compare-to line of products with everything from St Ives to Clinique.  They vary between being a little bit cheaper to quite a bit cheaper than the name brand version.  Here are a few skin care examples:

CeraVe

Clinique

Garnier

L'Oreal

Olay

St Ives

I did a video telling my thoughts on Compare To items.

I am interested to know, would you buy the Equate product or do you prefer the brand name?

  1. If the ingredients match, absolutely. I rarely shop at Wal Mart because it is a hassle getting to the store where I live, but have several "compare to" CVS products, including a couple of skin care items.

    1. That is how I feel - that the ''compare to" have the same primary ingredient so that is great for me. I wasn't sure if other folks felt the same way so, thanks for your thoughts on this Nora.

  2. I definitely would but I do not live close enough to a Walmart to take the time to drive there. I do not use coupons, or point systems, or become a member of any stores so I like stores that are like Walmart and just have their products cheaper without all the gimmicks.

  3. Thank you Elle! I heard about you from Lynette (labeautebag) & I am so glad I did! Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favourites! In the UK where I live we don't have products that say "compare to" on them but there are products that are very similar but a lot cheaper. I find this especially in supermarkets such as Aldi or Lidl. I knew about that Loratadine though! Thank you so much for making your fantastic videos. I love your positivity! :)

  4. BIG FAN of Equate and the Walmart store brand (Great Value) - I have found most are the same or better than the name brand - or it ight be that Iuse it more because Ican afford to us it over a $30-40 product.

    1. BTW, love your observation that we probably skimp on the higher priced product which makes it ineffective but feel ok indulging in the Equate brand and using it liberally. That is so true! I always chuckle when girls say they "are saving" a product as they don't want to use it up!

  5. I completely agree! I think that paying more than you have to is crazy and that most of the no name brands are the same or better. I used to work for a lot of big name brands (Revlon, Alcon, etc) and we frequently also produced the 'Compare To' products with the exact same product. The only change was the packaging.
